UN 2.0 Action area:

Partners & Collaboration

We will not be able to achieve the transformation we envision on our own.

By partnering inside and outside of the UN system, we make sure to tap into expertise and capacity where it’s strongest. We will share approaches for partnering across sectors and review the potential for joint investment in technology infrastructure and centers of excellence to enhance our ability to partner internally and externally.

In the area of Partners & Collaboration, the UN 2.0 Action Plan includes four essential actions all UN entities will take for fostering culture change.

Action 12

Share partnership best practices
Collect and disseminate successful partnership best practices across the UN system, focusing on collaborations for expertise, capacity, and capability building with academia, civil society, and the private sector.

Scale up joint centers of excellence
Review the potential for scale-up of inter-agency pooling and Centers of Excellence related to UN 2.0, focusing on the needs of smaller UN entities and the UN Secretariat.

Action 14

Run joint technology review

Building on Existing Collections
Some entities provide accessible overviews of partnership models that serve as examples, e.g. WFP Partnerships, UNDP Partnerships or UNICEF Foundation Partnerships.

Action 13:
Scale up joint centers of excellence

Scaling Up Joint Centers
Jointly investing in Centers of Excellence can involve pooling teams (as in United Nations One HR, UN Booking HUB) or creating cross-entity hubs like UNSSC or UNICC that offer specialized support in UN 2.0 areas.

Action 13:
Scale up joint centers of excellence

Country-level collaboration
On country level, entities often require similar support. For example, UNHCR, FAO, and UNDP run a joint programme in Venezuela.

ACTION 14:
Run joint technology review

Identifying Scaling Opportunities
Create opportunities to develop an interoperable tech stack that enhances collaboration across entities, leading to cost savings and more effective joint tech support teams.
